No Animals Left Behind: Help Ensure All Animals at Guzoo Find a Safe Home
After many years of campaigning to close down Guzoo Animal Farm in Three Hills, Alberta, WSPA and our partner Zoocheck Canada are thrilled that this unsafe facility will now have to close its doors. While we applaud Alberta's Sustainable Resource Development agency for their order to revoke the zoo license of this facility, unfortunately many animals kept there are not covered under that permit.
We estimate that 180 animals (including camels, turtles, birds and domesticated animals like dogs, cats and goats) may have to stay at this terrible facility.
Guzoo losing its zoo permit comes as a direct result of the efforts of numerous animal advocates like you who wrote letters, posted on facebook and participated in WSPA-led actions. But we can't stop now — all the animals at Guzoo deserve to find a safe and happy home.

WSPA-led coalition proudly completes relief work in Haiti
The Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) has successfully met all six objectives outlined in its $1 million plan with the Haitian government. The aim of the relief effort was to improve animal welfare conditions, repair the country's damaged veterinary system and have a long-lasting impact for animals and people following the devastating earthquake. Since it began work, ARCH's Mobile Veterinary Clinic has treated nearly 68,000 animals, including dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs, goats and sheep.
After running operations for the past year, ARCH will step aside as the Haitian government continues to address animal needs in Haiti through the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development.
"The operation in Haiti is one of the largest, most successful animal disaster relief efforts to date," said Gerardo Huertas, WSPA Disaster Management Director for the Americas. "Thanks to our supporters and hard-working team of veterinarians, we met every goal we set for ourselves, and can now — with certainty — transition the operation to the Haitian government."

Help end the cruelty of live animal export
WSPA is taking action and we need your help! Shocking video has come to light of Australian cattle being tortured in Indonesian slaughterhouses. The footage, captured by Animals Australia and reviewed by RSPCA Australia, shows terrified cattle being beaten, enduring intense pain and agonizingly slow deaths. View it here but please be warned it contains graphic material.
Public outcry from this footage has been unprecedented and the Australian Government has put a temporary ban on live cattle going to Indonesia. BUT that terrible video is just one example of the cruelty involved in the live animal export trade. Many more animals are still suffering and this ban could be lifted in as little as six months. WSPA is reaching out to the Australian Government demanding an end to live animal export for good.
Whether it's cattle shipped to Indonesia or sheep shipped to the Middle East, Australia has no means of protecting its animals once they have been sent off shore. The only control it has is whether or not to send them. Stand alongside the 100,000 Australians who want to put an end to this senseless animal cruelty. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that you take action.

Making dates with Middle East donkeys
A unique project, set up by WSPA partner Pegasus and Israeli date plantation owners, has given formerly abused and unwanted donkeys a new lease on life and a useful job to do.
Nearly 30 donkeys have been moved from the WSPA-funded Pegasus facility run by Zvika Tamuz to two organic plantations near the ancient city of Jericho. The donkeys are busy doing an important job - keeping the bases of the date palms free from grass. Things are going so well for the relocated donkeys that other plantations are now being reviewed as possible long-term solutions for difficult re-homing cases.
"The plantations are ideal places for the donkeys," says WSPA's Middle East Program Manager Alistair Findlay. "They provide a secure, protected environment with lots of shade. The donkeys are being well fed and watered and the plantation manager is delighted."

Be a hero for hens
Have you joined the many Canadians taking WSPA's Cage-Free Pledge?
Take the pledge to buy only cage-free eggs and you will help put an end to one of the most inhumane practices in Canadian farming.
Nearly all of Canada's eggs come from hens in battery cages. Crammed together with five or six others in tiny cages, the hens aren't able to move, stretch their wings or nest. They live their entire lives in a space no bigger than a sheet of notebook paper.
Hens don't have to be caged to produce lots of eggs. There are cage-free alternatives available in grocery stores across the country.
For your health, the environment and to save these hens from a life of cruelty it is time to switch to compassionate and sustainable eating. Join the growing number of Canadians who at home, at school, at work, or at the grocery store — are taking the Cage-Free Pledge!
